I had a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife as a kid, I’m sure. And I can remember getting one in my first year of marriage—I think Isaac owns it now—and somehow I’ve accumulated several others over the years.
But lately I’ve really fallen in love with them.
Most of my last decade or so I have carried a one-handed open flick bladed knife. A variety of iterations. The Milkwaukee Fastback with screwdriver is a solid choice. A Benchmade knockoff. Others.
The Victorniox Fieldmaster has become my favorite everyday carry knife: it has the saw, scissors, an awl, and a range of other basic tools. It is four layers, so a bit bulky. But these a not large knives, so it really isn’t a big bad deal.
The Compact is a brilliant knife. Just a slim two layers and has essentials like a knife, scissors, multi use tool that combines can opener, bottle opener, screw drivers. It also has the infinitely usable hook, a corkscrew that contains a micro screwdriver, the usual tweezers and toothpick, plus a pin and a pen. Wow! It is also really expensive, but for good reason. I don’t own one: but someday!
The Explorer is my other next knife. It has a magnifying glass (cool — for reading tiny print, macro photography, even starting midday fires) and a phillips screwdriver that flips out parallel to the knife, which is much more usable.
