GOOD, NICE, AND POSITIVE SENIORS
by Matthew Shaw

Dear Editor of the Moody Bible Institute-based Moody Student Newspaper: I often visit the Student Dining Room (the SDR, in less reverent words) three times a day. Sometimes I only visit it two times a day. On Tuesday of this week I only visited it once, though I wanted to visit it more. Today I visited the "SDR" during the supper hour. While I was standing in line I saw two seniors with admirable characteristics. I am a freshman, and the actions and words of seniors will have a great impact on the student I become. Those two seniors will have a positive impact on the way I think, articulate, and be passionate. The first senior that I saw is a man, most senior males are men. I met him during the vespers festival. I shook his hand and touched the hem of his garment. I saw his picture in the Undergraduate Catalog 2000 - 2001, and I told him that when we met. He reacted with humility. He was with a girl. She is pretty. I have seen them together since. Someday, when I grow up to be a senior, I want to be frequently seen by freshmen with pretty girls, perhaps the same pretty girl each time. Today when I saw him he was standing in the middle of the Servery. He was standing about three feet from the coffee machines and he was facing the soda pop dispensers, looking friendly. He always looks amiable. He is a good example for impressionable freshmen like myself and my roommate, Jonas. The other senior that I saw is named Aaron. He greets me, smiling, when he sees me. He knows how to make a freshman feel comfortable. He says, smiling, "hey, tight buddy." We are tight buddies, Aaron and I. We like to hang out together and play games. Sometime we are going to get together and play Monopoly with a Limited-Edition Chicago-Styled Monopoly set. We will call each other tight buddy. Maybe he will give me a piggy-back ride, or maybe I will give him one because I am bigger than him. Today when I saw him he was walking in front of me. He did not notice me because he was focusing on something else. If he had noticed me he would have said, to me, "hey, tight buddy." He is a good example for impressionable freshmen like myself, and my roommate, Jonas. Sincerely,
Matt Shaw |
