[Mr. Smythe laughs, hysterically for ten to fifteen minutes and when he stops laughing he is so breathless that he cannot speak for a full minute and he takes a long drink of water before speaking.]

"Whew. That was intense. Did you plan this? You kids! You crack me up. Wow. This is going to be a good week, I can tell. OK now, shall we get down to business? Good. Open your textbooks to page 517."

"That wasn't too funny, class." Says Mr. Smythe, sternly.

"That wasn't too funny, class." Says the class, sternly.

"That wasn't too funny, class." Says Mr. Smythe again, sternly.

"That wasn't too funny, class." Says the class again, sternly.

"OK Stop the game."

"OK Stop the game."

"OK Stop the game."

"OK Stop the game."

"OK Stop the game."

"OK Stop the game."

"I am angry now, class, I am very angry." Says a red-faced and ill-tempered Mr. Smythe.

"I am angry now, class, I am very angry." Says bright-eyed and happy class of students.

"Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!" Says Mr. Smythe.

[The class says nothing. They are silent.]

"Be quiet! Be quiet! Be quiet! Be quiet! Be quiet! Be quiet!" Mr. Smythe screams, oblivious to their silence.

[The class again says nothing. They are silent.]

"Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! [At this point the students gather up their belongings and go out into the hallway where they stay, talking nervously among themselves.]

[Back in the classroom, their Mr. Smythe is yelling.]

Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now! [After two weeks of substitutes the students are greeted by a new teacher, an attractive young woman who insists that they call her by her first name, Anne. They spend the first day writing letters to their former teacher, Mr. Smythe, at the mental facility where he resides and where he spends all of his days, repeating the same sentence over and over and over: "Stop repeating every word I say, stop it right now!"

The students like their new teacher and they all write long and repetitious letters to their former teacher, Mr. Smythe. When the bell rings they go out into the hallway. And they leave the school, skipping and chattering and laughing like carefree hummingbirds.]
